Allen grew up in Malvern, leaving at nineteen to go to Liverpool University. His career has been in education, as a teacher, a school advisor, a service manager and a strategic lead in local authority children’s services. He is passionate about inclusive provision for those with special educational needs and disabilities. He retired in 2010 and then trained for Reader ministry, being licensed in 2014 in Lichfield diocese. For eight years he was involved in hospital chaplaincy. In 2017 he graduated from St Andrews University with a Master of Letters (MLitt) in practical theology. In 2018 he moved back to Malvern, after 48 years away, and is now a licensed lay minister/reader at MLWC. He lives with his wife Mary and their terrier Ella and all of them are thrilled to be living in such a beautiful area surrounded by the wonder of God’s creation.
